Here is a interesting hand both from a bidding judgement perspective and as insight into GIB's bidding.

IMPS, 1st seat, Both Vul you hold QJ, T876 KQJ875, K.

The winning choice? Open 2D. You push the robots to 4H -2

The losing choice? Open 1D, and after 1S, P, 2H, rebid 3D. You get to 5D -2.

The sensible choice? Open 1D, and pass the next time. The opps play there, for a near 0 IMP result.

The REAL but unavailable choice? Same as above, but when the hand is passed back to GIB with Txxx, Qx, Axx, AQxx it takes some action opposite a partner who opened the bidding!!!

Opening 2D I think has increased strategical merit when combined with the knowledge that no other hand at the table has more than 12 HCP.
