IMP

Open to persuasion otherwise, but I fancy 2 by North instead of initial X.
Also, I don't understand why South's second double should be forcing (the explanation is truncated in the reproduction above, but at the table it included forcing in the description). Sure, this North should remove it, and does so, for a successful result, but I don't think that he should be required to. Otherwise it just gives East carte blanche to bid 3 on anything.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"Gentlemen, when the barrage lifts." 9th battalion, King's own Yorkshire light infantry,
2000 years earlier: "morituri te salutant"

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

dont like the double.
first it doesnt have enough points, partner should expect some defense if you double and bid a new suit and partner should feel free to raise with a fit and little values.
second this hand could belong in clubs, maybe even hearts, NT is a long shot, by doubling and bidding diamonds your gonna be in diamonds unless partner has a complete misfit and if that happens your in trouble.
Sarcasm is a state of mind

I agree that 2D would be better than double but if this was the worst bid GIB made it would be 10 times better than it is.

(1)I think North has a clear 2 overcall, not a takeout double.
(2)I'd prefer East bid 3 preemptive, not 2, over either X or 2.
(3)Shouldn't the 4 bid say something about North's holding? (I supposed that since it shows 12+ non-spades, it does say something about , but still...) And, I certainly hate describing that hand as 18+ total points.
