And the correct answer is: YES!

Seriously, I would bid 3, but I would not criticize anyone who would bid 4.

By loser count, you have a 6 loser hand, which is not always worth a jump to 3. But this hand has a lot of very good aspects, and the presence of the K cannot be ignored. The K might be worthless or it might be useful - we don't know yet. But the hand would be the same 6 losers even if the K were the 2.

I would prefer a slightly better heart suit, but it is not terrible. KJTxxx is a lot better than KJxxxx.

System ? how many hearts have you shown by 1 ? If 4 how freely do you raise on 3 ?

I'm wondering whether rebidding hearts is in fact correct here, partner has no more than 3/2 and may be shorter than that particularly in hearts, there are plenty of hands where you actually want to be in a minor here or NT, try Axx, x, xxx, QJxxxx or xxx, void, KQxxxx, QJxx for examples.

Form of scoring ? Are you playing weak jump shifts ?

It was matchpoints,

system is Acol so 1H opening shows 4+ probably raise on 3 with either a side singleton or two doubletons but 3343 or 2344 would always be 1N if in the right points

don't play weak jump shifts, no.

Pretty much same. I just want to allow for partner holding a bad hand with a stiff heart, where he is cornered into bidding 1NT.

I wonder how much I can infer from ops failure to bid spades.

3 I am not at all unhappy if pard bids 3nt with reason to believe 1 or both of their minor suits will run.

Obvious 3 for me as this stiff K is a downgrade and my suit is only 6 and not that strong.

I'd feel better about 4 if a small were the 9, but still would bid 3.

In that case probably 3, in a 5M system I'd seriously consider bidding a minor.

3, and I would criticize anyone who bids 4.

P.S.: I wrote this before realizing which forum this was posted in. If a beginner would bid 4, I would ask him or her why they bid it. If they said that despite 18 hcp, this hand has a nice 6-card suit and is full of aces and kings, I would agree that it's worth upgrading hands full of aces and kings, and with a 6-card major. And explain that on the other hand, the K is a negative feature, and that the suit isn't that great opposite a singleton, etc.

we have a 7 trick hand which will be a 9 trick hand opposite most minimums and a
10 trick hand opposite darn few minimums. Since this is MP there is no real reason to
push to a low % probability game here so we settle for a 3h invite which should be well
over 50% if p can accept. It is not always about HCP sometimes simply counting tricks
will solve an enormous amount of your rebid problems.

3 would be my choice, but at matchpoints a raise to 2NT has some merit to it. The spade situation is risky, but you'll only get blown away in the suit if partner has nothing there, RHO leads a spade and LHO has the A. And even then, partner has the option to go back to hearts with a strong doubleton. I'd want to be in 3NT if partner had J10x x KQxx QJxxx.
