The ACBL BoD will be considering the following motion in Phoenix

Quote

Convention Charts be amended as follows:

Item#12 of the ACBL Mid Chart, “Opening two hearts or two spades showing a weak two
bid, with a four card minor“ be moved to the Opening Bids section of the ACBL General
Convention Chart:

I am hence forth claiming victory in the long standing debate regarding whether or not a Muiderberg 2M opening is Midchart or not...

Well, now. If that succeeds, Hrothgar, will you be able to tell me if a Polish 2-bid (5 bid M+5m) will be allowed on the GCC?

(I have put in my comment to that effect to my district director to, if we move it, clarify all the relevant issues when we do).

If this trend continues, MOSCITO will be GCC legal in 700 years. Result!

Does this mean that you could open 2H showing spades and a four card minor? Or opening 2S showing exactly four diamonds, any other distribution? Or 2H to show a weak balanced hand with at least one 4 card minor? I do not know why one would like to play something like that, but it seems like the definition would allow it ;)

I'm pretty sure the wording would be interpreted to mean "weak two in the suit bid, also with a side minor", typically 5+/4+ major/minor.

Bidding 2M with a weak hand and either (6 card suit | 5M and 4+ minor) has always been GCC legal. Note that this does not promise anything besides the suit bid naturally. There was some question as to whether having the suit bid and promising a side minor was or was not GCC. This would resolve that ambiguity.

yes but I want to have a bid that shows a 6-card pre-empt and another bid which is 5M4m

In all seriousness, I like to play a 2S opening that shows a preemptive hand with either

6+ spades OR
4+ spades and a 5+ card club suit

The Fall NABC begins after lunch on Thanksgiving Day. It cannot have passed before the committee has had a chance to meet.
