MP, robot tourney, best hand South
To pre-empt all y'all piling in with how bad my 5♣ bid was, yes I know. Rightly or wrongly I had decided that I was not going to defend 4♠ (which actually goes one off on normal defence as the cards lie). Bidding 5♣ immediately I hoped not to get doubled (I was right there). And it might just push them into 5♠ which I was much more happy to defend.
But, and here's the thing: In what universe can North justify raising to 6♣? Maybe he decided that defending 5♠ would be a bad move and didn't want to get doubled in 6? Er, I think not.
North has absolute minimum for his initial double, both in values and shape. If I thought that I was making 6C opposite a balanced minimum I would be bidding it myself as South. Indeed the explanation of the 6♣ bid shows 11+ total points.
