IMP's, Teams

Do you start with 3NT or DBL?

If you DBL and partner bids 4-minor, what then?
If you DBL and partner bids 4, then pass?

I start with double. 3NT is too much of a position here. Partner will usually pass 3NT, and I really need 9 toppers to make on a shovel lead.

If partner bids 4 of a minor, I raise.

If partner bids 4H, I put down the dummy.

I only bid 3N if I can hold up my ace (preferably twice) or I have a solid minor so I have a chance to run 9 tricks. Dble has several ways to win (including defending 3S*) but 3N needs partner to have a spade stop as well or it is very unlikely to make.

IMO
  • Over (3): Double = 10 3N = 7, Pass = 2.
  • Over (3) Double (Pass) 4m (Pass): 5m = 10, 4N = 6, Pass = 5.
  • Over (3) Double (Pass) 4 (Pass): Pass = 10, 4 = 7, 4N = 6.

Dbl.

Pass 4H.

Is it ok to pass 4C and cue-bid/raise after 4d? Pushing to game in clubs seems a bit optimistic when partner may have minimum.

I'm doubling what 1303 said and adding 30 from the nige1 scale.

I asked four local experts what score they gave after partner bid :
P (3) Double (Pass) 4 (Pass)
Their total scores were:
- Pass: 30/40
- 5: 15/40
amazing that they all four prefer pass, and it seems that everybody here prefers to raise.

Give partner Qxxxx in his minor + 3 jacks. Where do you want to be?

I presume they noticed that their inferior client partners were playing the contract.
and adjusted for that.

You did that in an other topic too, don't tell us 5 -1. give us the entire hand please and the lead. Are you sure 5 was not misplayed ?

The corrected hand is still a clear Dbl, but I would obviously pass 4...

How come you say W had QJxx while i see J of hearts in my hand ? I am confused, did you mean W had KQxx ?

If so, I agree with others that this is quite a difference.

I did not reply previously about the bidding. With the corrected hand, i would double 3 and raise 4m to 5 at imps.

With the previous hand (AKxx hearts) i would have doubled and bid 4 over 4m.
