MPs scoring, 1H was limited to 15 HCP. What do you bid over 2S?
If you bid 3NT or 4H, LHO bids 4S and partner doubles, what now?

IMO
  • Over 2, 3N = 10, 4 = 7.
  • Now Pass = 10, 5 = 8, 4N = 6. You've accurately described your hand, so you should probably trust partner's double. It seems unlikely but partner should have values in . Hence, if you remove, then 5 may be safer than 4N.

5 feels really wrong on this shape but 4nt might work on a lucky lead so I would reverse the scoring for those two.

That said, partner may well lead AK and another in a minor or some such where I can profitably lead to an AQ so pass stands out. I'm getting in in time even if they trump the opening heart lead. Could well be close.

You are gambling on pd to have an Ace when you bid 3NT, else you will surely go down. How likely is it for him to have an Ace?

Within your limited opening system, you must assume Partner is smart enough to know you have this hand for the 3NT bid. Now, you must be smart enough to know he knows that ---and pass the double. If for some reason he forgot you were playing a forcing Club system, that's on him.

3N is a good bid because, playing strong club, it describes our hand so well - we can always trust partner's decision if there is more competition.

3nt is probably the value bid, but tells them you have solid , encourages them to bid 4. I'd try to bid 3 and then 4. May be they'll still bid 4.

No, let's tell them if we have solid , in a limited hand. I am sure they'll have a really difficult time figuring out what to do.

True, there are times where we want to keep the opponents in the dark because the information is unlikely to help partner. This isn't one of those times; and walking the dog is a pet peeve because it only serves to irritate CHO and give the opponents more room to settle where they belong.

The perverse pleasure from occasionally duping the opponents into bidding your game for you by keeping the auction open just isn't worth it, IMO.

It's not out fondness for dog walking that I want to bid the hand differently. I expect competition if I bid the limit of the hand right away. 3 making 3 or 4 scores better than 4 X -1 at this vulnerability. So, I am not worried if they don't bid my game for me. I am more concerned about them finding a cheap sacrifice against my game.

I pass because partner knows pretty much what my hand is and chose to double. If I have solid s, then I can't have a lot beyond the advertised stopper in with a 15 HCP max for opening 1 .

(Approximate) full hands above. There was only a 1 MP (using the 2MP/comparison scale) difference between pass and 4N, both would have been good results as most of the field was in 5H going off.
