The first of a few grannies for your edification.

IMP, robot tourney, best hand South

I felt that I just needed partner to have some extras in Diamonds. Having already shown his Diamond Ace in response to Blackwood, I assumed that his 6D cue showed the extras that I was looking for. Was I wrong? Well, obviously I was wrong in the sense that he did not have what I required, but was I wrong to expect it (ie was 6D the right bid)?

How many extras were you expecting after north bid 2?

Opposite a hand that still has room for a game try and might yet have a 10 loser 6 count, personally I would not bid more than 2S with say

S:KQxx
H:A
D:AQxxx
C:xxx

but maybe I should. Being brought up on the weak 1N opener I am used to making lighter game tries after a simple raise.

If your argument is that I should not countenance the possibility of a grand after 2S raise, then maybe you are right. On that example hand I still require two 3-2 breaks. That still does not make the 6D bid right (as from his point of view I MIGHT have been stronger).

I agree that 6 was not good. But the hand you give, KQxx A AQxxx xxx, is a clear 3 rebid for me.
