Paul's gone Welland.....

We went Welland-Fallenius in November 2002 for transfer responses. The switching of these bids was discussed then but taken a long time to make it into our system. I always presumed (but don't know) that Fallenius was the driver as he plays something similar with Fredin.

I don't work for BBO and any advice is based on my BBO experience over the decades

2 transfer to hearts
2 transfer to spades
2 transfer to diamonds

Is the way forward. With 18-20 balanced one opens 1 in civilised methods.

(don't scroll right to the bottom - we don't need to see someone's bad result :()

Yes - look at the 4th listing on the table. North was in 5, yet the lead was the 4. The lead is clearly wrong, but declarer could easily also be wrong, since East doesn't have a single 4 in his hand. Maybe the 3 was led.

IMPs.
Partner shows a balanced 18-19 HCP and, opposite your bid showing 4 diamonds, 5 clubs and heart shortage, bids 3NT. Have you said your piece?

Pass = 10, 5 = 7, stabbing myself in the eye = 6. I really think any removal gets zero, but I am marking a la Guthrie.
I too wussed out in 3N -- Chicken à la King :)

I had a rather harder problem with this hand.

(1H) 1NT (3H) ?

I would prefer to show my clubs on the 1st round but otherwise its ok and pass is WTP ?

I prefer Frances bidding by a lot. Note that opener could punt with 3S if hes unsure since he did grab NT by bidding 2Nt.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."
