I mistakenly thought that the 3 bid might be preemptive, so I decided to get into the auction with a double. Kind of silly, but we were down about 300 at this point, so I was looking for a swing. :)

Partner's double of 4 was imaginative. There are times (such as this hand) when I wish he were a little less imaginative. 4 makes more sense. He may be able to scramble 9 tricks in spades.
