MP, robot tourney, best hand South,

So, Just unlucky, or should it be bid differently?
For what it is worth I did not intend 3C to be forcing but I can understand if that is the way it has been programmed.
But if it is non-forcing I would expect North to pass the 3C, which is I think the preferred resting place (assuming you don't pass 1N which I think would be rather a unilateral view)
The mouse-over does not expressly say whether 3C is forcing, but it does say 18-22 total points. The hand JUST qualifies if you count 2 for the Spade singleton, not that that is much of an asset when considering NT as a strain.
Of some interest, the 100% matchpoint decision was (apparently) to rebid 3D where I bid 3C. This also shows 18-22 points but twice rebiddable Diamonds. On that occasion GIB North decided that it could pass, and did so.
Other good scores were obtained by just rebidding 2D instead of 2H, and then passing out the 2S protection by East.

Where are you heading on this hand?

GIB has shown less than 4 cards in both majors by its 1NT bid. If you reverse, you will likely get to game. If the game is 3NT, you will have a combined spade holding of 4 cards at most.. Unless GIB has 2 spade tricks, you will need to have 9 fast winners. The odds that you have 9 fast tricks are not high.

There is something to be said for passing 1NT. But 2 is probably the right rebid.

yeah 3 should be nonforcing. But presumably the sims showed that 3nt had higher EV than 3. South is minimum for his bidding.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket
