East.....South.....West.....North
1.......Pass.....2.......2
3.......4......Dbl.......Rdbl
Pass.....4.....Pass.....5
Pass.......?

1. 2 is preemptive
2. Rdbl promises 1st round control of 's

Your call?

Side note: what would you say the difference is between 4 and 4 - at round 2?

5s esp at MP. My thinking is p did not start with an X and this is an underpoint slam and suits may not break well. Hopefully going plus at 5S will be winning bridge if not TOP.

You cue the suit you control, so 4 show contrrol

redouble shows first round contrrol

4 shows minimum

5 shows no control

There is no way I am gonna deny a control to an unlimited hadn after a negative, 6.

Clearly, pard has no club control. The problem is if he has

AJTxx
Axx
Axx
xx

or

AJTxx
Axx
AKx
xx

(or eventually a spade more and a diamond less) Since with the 1st hand he might have not made a slam try, I should play him for the 2nd. But in that case, what does opener have?? Did he open 1D on

x
Qxx
Jxxxx
AQJx

Unless opener is a maverick, I don't believe it. Someone is overbidding and my guess is pard is the one. I sign-off 5S.

I'm with you, Fluffy !

After I showed minimum with 4, my partner insist towards slam only lacking control !

I have it so I bid it : 6

6, otherwise 5 is a crazy bid...

Can we bid 5H to show control, but not sure of slam?

At the table I tried 6.

It seemed I could put pard on either: Axxxxx, Ax, Axx, xx or more hopefully: Axxxxx, Axx, Ax, xx. 6 is ok on the first hand and fantastic on the 2nd.

Unfortunately, he held: Axxxx, A, Axxxx, Qx. I don't care for 5 much, diamonds are going to be overruffed in dummy, and thats if I have the hoped-for shortness.

We discussed the 4 / 4 cue. With this pard; 4 is the heavier bid; it probably shows an offshape max that couldn't compete over 1. 4 shows the hand I had.

With my other pard, we decided that the cue shows the control in the red suit with no reference to strength.

Great Post Phil.

Perhaps I am getting conservative in my old age but in my short time back at bridge it seems at the table p has the poor hand types after opp open the bidding.

In the magazine bridge quizzes p has the better hand types after opp open the bidding.

Presumably 2H is WJS. Pd is concerned with club control and I have Ck, which looks like behind the CA after RHO's opening.

I would bid 6S.

Am I seeing this right?

KQxx.....Axxxxx
x...........Ax
QTx.......Axx
KTxxx....xx

is hopeless unless clubs are 3-3. And

KQxx.....Axxxxx
x...........Axx
QTx.......Ax
KTxxx....xx

requires trumps 2-2, no? Far from fantastic, I think.

This confirmed my impression pard was overbidding

Your right on the 1st; require clubs 3-3. On the 2nd; we have 10 trump; so it only requires 4-2 clubs and 2-1 spades and the A onside. Virtually cold on this auction, I'd say.

I care about the friends I have made on BBO. Also, I am extremely concerned about the environment/ ecology/ wildlife/ the little planet that we call Earth. How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

I am curious to know what a 5 heart bid would mean overall at this point. I would interpret it as indicating a heart control, and it should imply a club control. Otherwise, why ask P for something that he/she already implied not having (assuming 5D denied a club control). Do I have more, the same, or less than I showed by bidding 4H? Does P's 5D bid improve or worsen my hand. My diamond cards don't appear to be much given the diamond bid on my right, but a heart control might be the information P needs to bid or not bid 6. I hope the rewind of 4HX shows 1st round control. Key cards alone apparently aren't partner's concern- had another bid for that. lol I never get these situations right.
