is 2h too far over the top? i can see bidding 2c aiming for 2s if partner bids 2d.. even an immediate 2s might be ok, but 2c seems to give more options

2, 15+ reverse :) We have the tools to find the much needed info about HCP strength, so no problems...

Good problem. I like 2C on the theory that the best final contract could well be one in which clubs are trump and, if I don't bid clubs now, it may be hard to convince pard that I have 4 of them. If game is a good bet then partner will usually bid over 2C. If we do miss a game at least we are not vul...

Jimmy, if we play negative dbl, then pd is unlikely to have spade.

2 doesn't seem right when we are very unlikely to have a fit there. This will be impossible in many partnerships.

On the other hand a club fit and clubs as the final denomination is relatively likely.

Therefore 2 must be much better than 2.

I think that 2 would be game-forcing and I don't quite have that strength.

i know fly, but i'm looking to complete my description... maybe best not to tell ops my dist tho... anyway, 2c does give more options

"On the other hand a club fit and clubs as the final denomination is relatively likely."

Well, maybe.

The form of scoring is not given. Perhaps I play too much matchpoints, for that is what I assumed.

Pd's 1NT guarantees a stopper IMO, and he probably has two, given your void and East's pass.

Doesn't this indicate 3NT, if pd has a max for his bid, at least at MPs?

seems like a lot to take for granted... i think partner might have a hand that would invite, had you opened 1nt, with the (big) difference that the ops will attack in your void... even a double stopper might not be good enough, you'll use one soon and the other immediately after

if you think your hand is worth a game force, why not 2h?

"if you think your hand is worth a game force, why not 2h?"

I don't think it's worth a game force, but I don't want pd passing 2C either, so 2S.

Do you think game is very unlikely? If you do, then 2C is the right bid. Maybe I'm being too optimistic.

Would 3 show a 4054? Or is it relegated to 3064 / 3073?

If the former, then 3; otherwise 2 and pattern out if given the chance.

Thanks, but it is unlikely to continue much longer.

The week between Christmas and New Years is the one week of the year in which I don't have to answer dozens of phone calls and e-mails every day (because I don't receive them during that week). That gives me more time for doing some of the things I enjoy like getting involved in bridge discussions.

I'm afraid it's back to business as usual starting tomorrow...

no, maybe not unlikely... i think partner will bid again tho, if he thinks we have something... the big question comes next bid, if partner preferences to 2d over 2c
