Played this hand earlier in a team match. Unknown skill level for opps, part is reliable. Opps are a regular partnership, if that matters.

1) Is pass by South forcing?
2) What would you do as North?

Pass of 5 is clearly forcing. Your partner, at this vul, was not bidding 5 as a sacrifice.

You have a likely spade stopper, you have great values in hearts and diamonds. I guess I would bid 6, but would not be surprised if we had a slow club loser plus the A.

I don't think the pass was forcing, since I have shown no more than a Yarb, but maybe pard thinks so. Anyway, when they lead a club I will know how silly my 6H bid was or wasn't. If their spade ace is cashing, there is no slow club loser...maybe fast ones, though.

Pass was clearly non forcing imho. But i am not gonna get into any debate about it, because it will not really affect my decision now. Mainly because nobody knows who was saving upto this point and i still have no clue who does the hand belong to.

What do i bid now ? 6 , It was more difficult decision 1 round ago imo. And we decided to bid 5 (which i agree). I just can't resist with QTxx QJx reds when pd had put himself on the line red vs white at 5 level. This may sound like we are betting against ourselves but, 1 round ago we had only a heavy preempter at the table, now his pd stuck his nose into it, which changes the expectation of defeating 5 looking at my hand and where my values are located.

To me pass was non forcing. But partner bid game vul., so I do understand that people have other agreemets then me about FP.
Now I bid 6 which can be great- opposite -,AKxxxx,Akxxx,Ax or horrible when both sides have a double fit and they "sacrifice" in 6 making...
Kind Regards

Pass was clearly non-forcing, since partner bid 5 under pressure. It is impossible that he bid it expecting to make a 5 level contract, since he opened 1 and we are looking at our red cards....honours he doesn't hold.

He bid 5 as a calculated gamble, not as 'to make'. He was hoping we fit a red suit and that either we make or go down no more than 500 against their 420. I'm hoping for AKxxxx AKxxxx in the reds but recognize it could be 65 or he's missing the heart K.

I'm bidding 6 and don't think it to be close at all. We have 3 ways to win: we make, they save, or we fail but they were making 450. We aren't going 2 beat, that I am sure.

Thanks everyone for the replies. This was the full hand:

I didn't dare to bid 6H, and didn't bother to X either, because I was pretty sure they will either make or go down too few to matter. Auction at the other table was identical, but their South doubled 5S for down 2. We lost only 5 IMPs, but 6H was making. Also, partner yelled at me for passing after his forcing pass, which is why I asked if you feel that he could have established a forcing pass situation all by himself.

Edit: I named South "n" and North "s" lol - sorry about that. Anyway, hope it's clear enough what happened.

P was VUL vs NOT this is NEVER a case of p managing the perfect tightrope act of making a save against the
opps NVUL game with zero input from partner. Once that is established p decision to bid 5d and then pass 5s is
clearly showing slam interest despite the fact you have shown nothing so far. Even if you cannot force yourself
to bid 6h at a minimum you have to x. If the vulnerability were even or favorable forcing pass is much harder to
establish since either side could be sacrificing.

There is a clue here that opener doesn't have that.

How does his particular hand here have anything to do with whether the pass should be forcing or not?
