Below is an extract from the GIB system notes:

Conventions that GIB does not play
•Drury, reverse Drury
•Gambling 3NT
•Namyats
•Bergen or Reverse Bergen Raises
•DONT
•Puppet Stayman

I am extremely curious why the programmers chose to exclude these conventions as they are quite popular. I am especially curious as to why Puppet Stayman is excluded. The thread on Puppet Stayman attracted 188 replies and 17,976 views.

The choice of conventions is a compromise between what experts consider best and what most average players are familiar with. Mostly we go with the "average player" approach; a notable exception is that the basis is 2/1 Game Forcing rather than Standard American.

Most of the players who post here are probably more advanced than average players, so their preferences may not be representative of the majority. I confess that I haven't read the thread on Puppet Stayman.

Most experts also say that the selection of conventions is not as important as people think. Good players can do well with a simple system or a highly complicated, scientific system.
