ok thanks given that south is a passed hand still not sure what the diff over the forced 2d by north is here; in any case thought the hand worth less than inv.

The south hand is really bad. If you have two ways to invite (seems you do) then definitely south should show the weaker one by rebidding 2♠ after 2♦. If north is going to upgrade for having aces (which seems to have happened here) south also needs to downgrade for queens and jacks!

I think north overbid even a little bid more then south.

But the main problem: IF you upgrade for aces, downgrade for quacks.

And if you do not downgrade quacks, don't upgrade for aces.

I disagree. I think the South hand is worth about 8 while the North hand is about 14 in spades. I think it is perfectly ok for North to accept the "good" invitation but not ok at all for South to make it. I am not even sure that South is worth a "bad" invite. Of course, I like a style with lots of up- and downgrading. Presumably South has a different style. It is less important which style you play than that both partners are playing the same one.

I think both overbid, but south more than north. The south hand is awful, I would choose a simple raise, no invite at all, never mind a good invite.

I also agree that the 3♠ bid by South is way too aggressive, it's just slightly worse than the 4♠ acceptance by North. I would have used 2♣ and then 2♠, and played it there.

South has a truly terrible hand, I think 2♠ is plenty. I would rather pass 1♠ before I invite.
