I don't see how Dr Who can be rated so lowly amongst some of the dross rated in the top 10.

The ordering of the list is definitely questionable and Alien Nation and Invasion are questionable entries (especially Alien Nation). I think this list is better (Babylon5, XFiles, Farscape are worthy additions). And it depends on do you count fantasy as part of science fiction? (Game of Thrones? Buffy? Dresden Files? etc.). I have many others that I'd consider at least worthy of considering (and certainly more worthy than Alien Nation) including Dark Angel, Andromeda, Quantum Leap, Sliders, V, Doll House, etc. And then comedies like Futurama, 3rd Rock from the Sun are a whole other kettle of fish (and include others like ALF, Red Dwarf, Lexx, etc.).

And Doctor Who is borderline comedy IMO. Not quite, but close.

As we've noticed every time one of these lists is posted, the guy behind this site is obviously American. Torchwood and Dr Who have been shown prominently in the US, Red Dwarf not so much -- I'll bet he's never seen it.

At least he didn't list Lost in Space.

Maybe this particular list doesn't have Red Dwarf because the author hasn't seen it.

But really, it would never belong on a sci-fi top ten list, or bottom ten list, or any list, because it isn't sci-fi. It's comedy. Maybe it could be on a comedy top ten list. Or maybe, if you really like it, on an all-genre list. Just not sci-fi.

I think sci-fi can be comedy or horror as well.

To me, 'Castle' is fundamentally a police procedural, yet it is labelled 'comedy'. :ph34r:

I'm old school, I hate the term "sci-fi" because back in the day it was almost invariably used in a derogatory way.

I like your list, but I think Buffy is fantasy. Agree about Game of Thrones. How about Firefly? I think I'd move Babylon 5 up a bit.

fair enough. I can see bumping Buffy as fantasy.

I loved Firefly, but it was only on for half a season...

It's certainly possible for genres to overlap. There are comedy westerns (Blazing Saddles), comedy police procedurals (Barney Miller, Police Squad), comedy fantasies (I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched). The Neighbors, Mork and Mindy, and My Favorite Martian are more examples of comedy sci-fi.

Don't forget, this is the site that listed Firefly on its top 10 list for both sci-fi and westerns.
