- What's preventing it from just opening 2♦ to begin with?
- When I make takeout dbls of opponent's raise to 2M (either auction like this, or 1M-p-2M-x), GIB likes to jump to 4m too often IMO. It pays to dbl opp's fit auctions to 2M fairly aggressively with shortness if partner can't balance. There are double partial swings involved, and you can reasonably often push the opps up one and set them. But this is counterproductive if partner too often bids 4m -1, often you can set 3M or they might have let you play 3m. Meanwhile there is no game bonus, and the odds of making 5m are fairly remote when opps have near half the deck and this hand wasn't strong enough to take initial action. Basically I'd like GIB to not jump so readily here, bid 3m with a wider range. Jumping to 4m after a takeout double of 2M to show strength is a lot different, and has a lot more downside, than jumping to 2M after a 1 level takeout double to invite.
