I think partner has ♣AJTx(x). As I said, with AJx (leaving declarer with QTxx), partner plays the J. In addition with QTxx, declarer isn't insta-covering. He might duck altogether, or might cover slower - especially if he has QT73 instead of QT63. Of course he shouldn't - if our lead is true, we are marked with K98

Sorry, I hadn't noticed that declarer was a passed hand.

I agree with Phil, almost. With AJxx partner would have played a low one back at trick two, catering for Q10x. With AJx or AJ10 partner would probably have played the jack or 10 at trick one. Hence partner has AJ10x or AJ doubleton. I take the king and play back the 8. If declarer has 1076 left, it gives a trick to declarer but at least I'll get one in return.

you surely mean the 10, I didn't realice north's mistake. North was not an expert, south and east were I should had said so.

south played the 8 after a long tank, but that was not enough, East still had to decide how to beat the field in 4♥ (literarilly ALL the field was there). He decided to go for diamonds hoping that hearts were 4-1 or that ♦QJ were onside, pitching spade and heart from dummy on the clubs -400 was still 92% for NS.

he best not do that with me. i don't lead from 2 card interior sequences normally.

The jack is completely clear if partner knows declarer can't run nine tricks. If we have KT9xx it merely cost the overtrick, and it's not as if we are fishing out a low club from KT8x on this auction.

But it spares us the guess here and often scores big when declarer has Kxxx.
