I would have no trouble bidding 5c if p were to
x 4h (using the theory that you dont pull the x
unless you expect to make your bid). The problem
with a direct 5c bid is that it creates a range of possible
hands (for a 5c bid) that is so huge that it is unplayable.
This is an especially bad idea when you are talking about
vul hands at the 5 level and up huge IMPS are involved
(lots of MP too).

I would definitely bid.
It's dangerous, but so too is passing, and a wise man once said that it's a bidder's game.
I won't insult you by suggesting various common layouts where passing is disastrous: you know them as well as I do, just as I know those where bidding leads to a terrible result. My take is that there are, slightly, more ways to win than to lose.

Wow, if Mike is a bidder then I would expect at least 90% of experts to follow suit. This suggests that more non-experts will probably pass here than experts!
