♠Kxxx
♥T9x
♦xx
♣AKxx

Dealer, unfavorable at BAM scoring, very strong opponents.

Pass - 2♥ - Pass - Pass

Do you balance? If so, with what?

I sort of need a two-tier poll.
If I balance, it is with double (which looks 100% obvious to me), but I'm not at all sure whether I should balance or not.
I wouldn't at imps.

I would not balance with this.

I wouldn't balance. It's a pipless balanced 10-count with an awful heart holding.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Three topless hearts is the death holding.

I passed at the table. Partner's hand was:

♠Axx
♥x
♦KQJxxx
♣xxx

The 2♥ contract made; we can make 4♦ or 1♠ double-dummy... probably can make 2♠ on realistic defense. Note that at BAM scoring even down one is better than allowing 2♥ to make (unless we get doubled, which is not too likely) and bidding might also push opponents to 3♥ failing.

At the other table, our teammates mis-defended 3♠ making, so we weren't really winning this board. Still, our result seemed quite poor and it would be nice to get a plus score.

He who is short in opponents suit must strive to take action.

My partners usually have something like QJX in hearts here rather than a singleton.

Opposite a passed partner I understand partners pass over 2 ♥. MY godness, if we always find the winning solution, the game would be very boring.
Kind Regards

Tough, I would pass to be honest. Would rather double on partner's hand. Singleton heart and a 6 card ♦ suit...could end up in the wrong part score but still, would rather double on that
