My experience is that RHO has three diamonds more often than four in this auction (with four he will strive to raise). When he has three diamonds, he has zero or one spade, so partner could be 54 or 64 in the pointed suits. And this is the kind of auction where they could easily have 17 opposite 8.

Given that partner probably has 5 spades and 3 or more diamonds, you are definitely sticking your neck out. But I would call it pushy rather than insane. This is a tough sequence for the opps to double, since they have limited hcp and going wrong costs them a huge swing at imp pairs.

I would vote for mildly insane if it had gone 1♦ - 1nt - 2♦ back to me but on this auction it's from an alternate universe. Maybe at mp's on heavy heavy fuel.... but not at imps.
