I would like to be able to access players profiles at any time ,not just when they r on line. Then I could adjust comments etc on friends lists , and look out for various players at times which suit me...not just when they r online. Is this not feasible?
Perhaps also when accessing my friends' list via my profile I would like to be able to click on name and get profile. Please consider.

I am not a programmer, nor do I pretend to be one. But the problem with this would be that all 400,000 or so profiles would have to be available at all times. These seems like a lot of overhead, considering average number of users online is around 3 to 4 thousand. I suspect there could be a call up button or an "edit comments for a friend" button that might be easier to do (assuming you know your friends ID). There is already an add or delete people from friend and enemy list, which you can use when people are not online. We talked about this the other day, so you know how to do that.

Not sure, but one thing I have wanted for a year or so (since the lists were centralized, actually) was the ability to edit my friends/enemies lists, even when the player to be edited was not online. For instance, I'm at a table, and once-regular partner from <far away> says "remember <player> from the club? She's <nick> here." It would be really nice to be able to add her to my friends list rather than check 4000 names every time I log on to see if she's on.

Similarly, I will frequently "enemy" someone so that I can ignore the commentary - frequently insulting of their partner. I happen to be very sensitive to it, no matter who it's directed to. But most people deserve a second chance; I'll take them out of the killfile after a while, to see if they've learned. But I can't, unless I see them in a list somewhere. That really isn't fair to the people who have learned proper behaviour in the interim, nor to those who only lost it once, because of outside pressures I know nothing about, but the "once" just happened to be at my table.

If that were possible, even by forum-like editing, I would be very happy.

This has been available FOR A LONG, LONG time.

You can add or remove names from your friend or enemy list at will, even if they are not on line.

Step one.
Click on your name from main lobby or in kibitzer box

Step two
Find the button labelled Friend/enemies

Step three
Add or delete names from friend list or, click switch to enemy, and then add or delete enemies. It is so self explanatory when you find the right page no further instructions needed .

Even if there were 400,000 users and each user's profile took 1000 bytes, that would only be 400MB. Have you looked at the size of disks lately? 400MB is a drop in the bucket.

Another thing that I think might help is to store a CRC or MD5 checksum. When you receive somebody's profile then you can store it locally along with the checksum. When you transfer the user list then just ship the checksum along with it. If the checksums agree then no reason to download the profile.

i think we'll find that if this embedded explorer window pans out, that profiles will eventually become completely web-based, which has the advantage of being split from the core gaming environment's existing server/bandwidth setup

Why isn't it better to download a users profile only when I bring my mouse over the name? Usually during a session I look at most at say 100 profiles. Never 5000. So altogether you could save a lot of traffic this way. Maybe it would slow down the mouse movement a little, but probably downloading a profile doesn't take more than transfering a chat message.

Thanks, Inquiry - I didn't notice that under all the stuff. Yes, as you say, self-explanatory when you find the button...

I still can't view/add my "notes" on the person there, though. But it will be useful the next time I get a connection-dropped-after-pd-butchers-hand player. And in that case, "why enemy?" might as well be blank.

and don't forget uday, if/when you get around to it, to add the capability to only allow alerts for some (if one chooses) on the friends list... this might not be that important to most, but sometimes i come on to play with a particular person and i kib while waiting... i'd like to know when that person logs on without necessarily knowing about the other hundred on my friends' list

maybe one way to make it more interesting could be to have the personal cc (or more than one) posted in the profile ?

However, it still has to be seen that many players will actually prepare this "digital cc" so, I dunno...
