Why does GIB rebid 1N in one case but 2N in the other?

10 HCP is borderline?

More sloppy programming- the points ranges overlap at 10 HCP so GIB randomly chooses one or the other bid.

Might it have to do with the strength of the stop in the unbid suit (great v. non-existent)?

Right - on the first one's likely club lead you get a free trick, making the hand worth an upgrade to a 2NT bid. Sounds reasonable to me. I don't think GIB's bidding database coding allows it to "randomly" pick bids (am no expert though).

Fixed in the next update. 1NT will show 6-9, 2NT - 10-12. Thereby, the only bid for North would be 2NT.
