You are in a new partnership with an expert player, learning their precision system. You've shown 5+ diamonds and a game forcing hand (8+ HCP, generally), your pass is forcing, and partner's 6 is completely undiscussed, so you have to use bridge logic to figure it out.

Are you done at the 6 level, or are you shooting for 7? And in what strain?

6D. Partner agreed ds with his 3D bid. I will sort out the rest of the auction with him later.

have been confirmed as the trump suit. I would read the 6 bid as asking for the Ace. Bid 7 confirming the A. Signoff in 6 denying the A.

So 7 is my bid.

Agree with the last sentence, but with three keycards, I bid 7.

Obvious 7C. Partner has diamonds and long clubs and thinks we can make slam. Then we can make 7.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

in order for me to believe 6c = clubs i have to picture p with a hand
like AKQ void AQxx QJxxxx. If p were to bid 6c with such a hand
how would they expect p to know to stop in 6 with say
xxx Ax Kxxxx Kxx??? just seems like too big a risk to me.
Too many hands where p could bid 5h (exclusion) or just plain 4n
followed by asking for specific kings to discover if i held the club Ak.

IMO this is a club void and p wants us to use our judgement from
there to decide how high we should go. My hand has just gotten
considerably worse and i am more than happy to sign off in

With AK it seems a bit of a stretch to assume partner is offering a choice of slams.
5 would show a control, so what's left? shortness?, that's my pick.

But, OTOH could be be

AQx

AQx

Partner either has clubs OR is making a CAB in clubs

Either way, I have him covered.

I'm bidding 7. If partner has a club suit, he'll be happy. If partner is asking about controls for 7NT, he'll be happy.
If partner is splintering I'll apologize and have words after the session.

AKxxx AKx AQxxx x

I don't think this is possible, partner would have bid 4 over 2 with this hand (a splinter because 3 would have been forcing).

Quote

AKQ void AQxx QJxxxx.

Likewise, doesn't this hand bid 4 (or 5) over 2?

What would 4 instead of 3 have meant ? Difficult to tell in a new partnership, but if that was the fit bid, then this is probably a void.

I put 7 on the table. Partner actually had:

(spots approximate)

spade finesse was on today.

Partner indicated that she was unsure about the best way to bid her hand, since it looked like a 30 point deck. I had no great suggestions.

Shouldn't partner see they want to play in diamonds for exactly this reason, or am I resulting? I guess if you have six diamonds then you probably want to play in clubs in case you have to ruff trick one in dummy and get back to your hand to finish drawing trumps. But I think it's a greater concern that you just have five diamonds.

If we are playing 6 I would obv rather be in clubs since if diamonds go bad and we can't ruff 2 hearts...

Interesting that if partner has 3-6 that he has to have the AK of spades since we don't have enough pitches. I didn't think of that. And with 3-7 partner probably would have bid clubs first without raising diamonds.

Still, I would insta bid 7C. Assuming partner has a heart void they have at least the AQ of spades and often the AK. If partner has the HA rather than void, we have enough pitches opposite 3136. It is possible that he has this hand or just the AJ of diamonds (or on a really bad day AKx A Axx QJTxxx I guess), but it is also very likely that we are just 100 % to make 7C so I'm willing to chance it.

Can partner have AKQ x AQJ QJTxxx? No, with that hand he would just bid keycard at some point. Maybe also with the hand before with the HA. He is very likely to have a heart void and a not great hand since he didn't bid 5H.

Right I meant over 7 I think partner should bid 7. I'm not sure about that and obv it's a problem if we have KTxxx and have to ruff a heart in dummy at trick one, but if our diamonds are better like KJTxx then I think it's right since we can avoid the spade finesse. I suppose it's kind of a guess.
