Let me know after you write your book: Constructive Bidding Over Opponents Strong 2♣ Opening.
I would not assign any blame here. Each partner assumed the other was weak with a long suit.
If there is any blame at all, it goes to the partnership as a whole for not playing some sort of 2 suited bid over the opponents' strong 2♣ opening. That might lead to bidding the making sacrifice in 5♣.
Recently, a partner of mine jumped to 4♦ over a strong 2♣ opening at no one vul holding an 8 card diamond suit to the 10. This got doubled by third hand holding AQJ8 of diamonds. Since opener did not pull with 5-5-0-3, I guess that the double was for penalties. It was online so I could not hear how loud the double was. I had the singleton ♦K. When the smoke cleared, it went for 1400, barely beating the 1510 that was available in one major suit but NOT in the other one. A handful of players got to the making grand, but not many, so -1400 was not a great score
So you go looking for a way to bid constructively over a strong 2♣ opening. I am sure that the right hand will come along in another 10 years after this one.

East could have done more, but I also agree that you are on your own trying to bid constructively over 2♣...

East has a reasonable chance to do something different, instead of his final pass, but it is hard to blame him. Sitting there, it looks like we clogged up their 2♣ auction pretty well and may have already succeeded.
On the other hand, west was willing to take a dive in 4♦ over 3NT, and east has a better hand than he might. So maybe another call is in order, particularly at these colors.
Overall not much blame, maybe a little to east.

Constructive might be important, but no real need to reach 5♣, not even make it, 7♦X scores better than 4♥ -620, even 4♠ would be a better spot. 5♦ scored +550 for many tables.

hmmm e had a ton of knowledge here they didnt take advantage of--
p bid 4d over 3n. The fact they did not x makes it seem obvious
they want to sac. I see nothing wrong with letting 4d go but after 4h
i see no rational reason to not bid 5c and let p pick the best place to
play. They cannot have a huge dia fit else they would have bid 5d
immediately to sac. It is very nice indeed when our attempted
sacrifice turns out to be an ice cold game and even a slam may make.
