Without seeing the hands, this is the kind of hand that Misho's equality is just made for. Over the double, this hand redoubles, which shows spades. This is not a transfer to spades so much as simply showing spades. Partner will rebid 1 on yucky hand with some spades, partner might pass 1X-XX but if he does, he expects to make it without support from you. Parnter might also try 1NT or 2 of a minor with a minimum hand and no fit. Partner will not rebid 2, which might get you into trouble if his hands is all hearts and weak.

You know what to do over all these bids. IF partner has extras and not willing to stick in 1x-xx, he will bid more agreesively, and you will be fine. This way, you might get to play 1he=xx, or 1 or anything else.

Dan Neil has posted a word document with misho's equality methods (my understanding of his methods... at least) on his webpage.

I'd rather have the 1 bid be nonforcing, but there isn't much point anyways. It's not like we're going to buy it at one spade.
