Jilly--Yes, I can see the diagram.

I do not double.

4 Hearts, vulnerable seems like enough to me.

Partner should pass, you could easily have a strong hand with diamonds instead of this weaker shapely hand.

I would expect partner to be making a fairly disciplined weak 2 in 1st or 2nd seat red vs. white.

We're looking at least an 11 card fit. 5 bidder probably has at least 6 s, so pard can't have many.

4 looks like a maker to me. Seems pretty sure we can't beat 5 enough to cover that.

So, without looking, I'm bidding 5 . If I'm wrong, it's only 1 board.

After your double, I think pard has no choice but to sit.

Which call to make with your hand is easy: 5 . This may be a phantom sac at worst and a double game swing at best...

And without looking at partners hand: He must pass with 99% of all hands. You may have a set in your own hand.
Kind Regards

Seems like a question on how often we expect to make 5H vs taking the cash with X.

If partner has a diamond void 3604 is pretty likely, in which case we are cold opposite the heart ace (also very likely).

If partner has a stiff diamond, something does not add up...if hes 3613 they should be in clubs (it's possible RHO doubled with like 4126 and LHO bid 5D though of course), and if hes 2614 they should be in spades (possible RHO doubled with 5 spades). This leads me to believe that partner has a diamond void a ton of the time, so I'm happy to bid 5H. In fact, at imps I'd probably redouble if they chose to double (at MP I would just be happy with 5H X).

In a way this is encouraging - I got this one totally wrong (apparently), but at least there's a consensus, so probably this can be learned :)
So, obviously I was trying to Robson/Segal them. So I made them guess, they're on the five level, I have a trump trick (placing honors with the doubler) or more and trumps are definitely breaking poorly for them. In addition I have the AK which will likely cash and they probably don't expect. So, defending is a sure plus, so I doubled because we're playing MPs.
How did you guys figure out that 5 makes? Not surprisingly Justin figured out partner's hand pattern precisely, and partner indeed came up with a pitch for my losing spade. I don't understand how this magic worked, though. The doubler has short hearts, okay. He doesn't have five spades, or he'd overcall at MPs. Is the next step to assume they're in their best fit, so bound partner's side suit length at values that ensure ending up in diamonds was correct?
