Because GIB "knows" east has 3 dia. If s finesse is not good, east will play a dia so that west can ruff. personally i would prefer north play SA on the first trick of S.

You are saying East knows it has three diamonds- that's an incredible achievement for a GIB to know what's in its own hand. He is pointing out that East doesn't win with the K♠- that represents how stupid the other GIB is in thinking it doesn't which card I play (it does matter because partner will think you have a singleton spade) so play the highest spade.
You gotta to love how North-South can't manage to simulate the likelihood of being ruffed in diamonds.
