I've been thinking on using a Master Solvers' Club (from the Bridge World) set of problem from the 60's and how useful could it be. I think bidding has evolved a lot in bridge and many ideas would be wasted or erroneous. Another section, like Challenge the Champs, could be very good at any time, for the 'right' contract for two hands would usually be the same no matter what.

So, how long would you say the MSC lasts? 5 years? 10 years? 2 years?

Until BWS changes, I suppose.

Max Hardy complained that in many cases his innovative solution to a bidding problem in the MSC, using agreements not in BWS, was rejected because it wasn't part of BWS. Discussion of whether his treatment was better or worse than the BWS treatment was not allowed.

Max had the problem of not understanding that MSC, "It's your call", etc. were discussions of judgement on the hands. The system was a given. Other articles were and are appropriate for discussion.

These fora are good for debate of same. I am glad panelists don't get credit for their own gadgets in MSC, but enjoy hearing about them anywhere.

Yeah MSC from the 60s would not really be useful. However as a bridge enthusiast I really love reading the old ones. It's like going back in a time machine, it's awesome to read the comments of the great players. Some of them would come up with things on the fly that are now standard.

I would think anything in the 90s would still be useful though, so maybe ~20 years is my answer.
