1S-1N
2H-3H
?

IMP's, non vulnerable.

If it matters at all: 1S is 11-16, 3H by us would have been 14-16 with 5/5.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

the 11 16 range is very important. At IMPS
we are constantly pushing for game and the
one doing the inviting would normally just
bid game if all they needed was an average
hand from you. Your hand (after evaluation)
falls right in the middle of your range and
you should pass.

P is asking you to bid game if you are near
the top of your range for your 2h bid and you
are about a K short.

Some hands must decline. I'd much rather have my majors honnors reversed, but even then I would pass.

If it was vulnerable i would definetely make a game try. Non vuln i would pass.

I'm just curious when I read this kind of reply, doesn't partner also know about the intricacies of game bonuses and vulnerabilities? Sorry if this sounds mean, I really don't intend it that way, but sometimes I feel both people overcompensate on account of IMP scoring.

If it was a natural system, i am totally with you. Then 3 raise can be courtesy raise. Playing narrow range 1 opener i expect pd to have better hand than natural responders. I like my hand, not too much, but i would try game if vulnerable. I am not really strong about this one to be honest, but thats what i would do.

Was this from JEC match ?

Yes. One of the smaller swings in their favour.

Partner had
A
QJxxx
Qxxx
xxx

I thought we both made reasonable choices. I didn't know partner had three low clubs and he didn't know I had a singleton. The other table jumped to game as responder, also perhaps reasonable but hardly necessary.

Indeed if the minors had been the other way around we would have had a pickup here. Which makes me wonder whether it wouldn't be more sensible for 1-1NT; 2-3m to be a game try in hearts rather than a long weak minor suit.

Yea i saw it in hand records. As i said non vulnerable i think pass is definetely % action. Vulnerable i would call bidding game an agressive action, but if you were vulnerable perhaps Michael would just blast it too with 5 hearts.

No need to guess who held your cards at the other table.

At the other table, it wasnt his hand who bid the game, other hand with 5 blasted 4 after 2

Blasting 4H over 2H seems pretty reasonable to me. Especially so in a non limited opening system.
