It seems a shame that the South who gave the more correct response to RKC didn't get to the grand whereas the other player did. Is there a general rule as to when you should or shouldn't make the jump response to show the void?

One good time might be when you have 3 KC vs. 1 (from North's point of view, south could still have KQJx/QJx in the minors, and down 1, don't know why North in first auction is assuming all keycards either), and when your response takes up all room below your trump suit. Partner on this kind of auction going to have ace of hearts very often that doesn't particulary care about void and might be more interested in other things like your K of diamonds.

From my experience, it seems to me that it's rarely a good thing to show, and I think it's probably best to only do so when your team has bid every suit except the suit you have the void in, because then it's most likely to be useful. Every other time, your team probably has good enough stuff that it's likely enough that your team has the A and it's a waste of bidding space to try to show a void that doesn't help. There may be some exceptions but this is what I try to use now. And it seems especially unhelpful if you've already shown shortness.
