In a recent team match, kfay had the following hand:

1NT is semi-forcing, 2NT is INV+ with 4 hearts so 3 is preemptive.

I'll let you guess what he bid before revealing the hand and the completely different auction at the other table.

I had an unlikely push in an event recently.

I opened a weak no trump with a 2533 12 count, played there opposite partner's 2452 8 count and they cashed a lot of black tricks for -2. This proved to be flat with 5 after the making 4 was bid at the other table.

On this hand probably 4.

1H - 2S! = Zel mini- or in-between splinter ( 2NT! next by Opener = relay; "asks" )
2NT! - 3D = mini-splinter in

Down one and 4H-1 at other table?

And the winner is .... CSGibson!

I thought we had done quite well to bid and make our 17 HCP game, but against Kevin's mad hand evaluation skillz, +420 was a push.

Phil's alert is strange to me. The pass denies a diamond control? You are not even in a gameforcing auction.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

What does not being in a gameforcing auction have to do with it?
