Phil and I both played this hand today and disagreed on what the ideal contract is, spots are approxiamate, but all cards up to the 7's are accurate

2S.
But I think few can stop even in 3S.
Is that the jist of your question?

Looks like 1S to me. Game looks awful, and NT looks worse thn spades.

Yes I agree with you know. I was influenced by the opening lead at my table, which we played from the West side.

They led the queen of diamonds against 4S? You'd still need spades to split and the heart ace onside?
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

In other news, I'd likely be in game if I played 15-17 NT and 2S if I played 14-16 NT, thus proving that 14-16 is superior to 15-17 obv.

K from KQx. I brilliantly held myself to 9 tricks in spite of spades splitting and the A onside, but we lost the board in the bidding.

I thought my ratty 9 count was only worth an invite. The field disagreed.

Everyone led from KQx into a 1N opener? I guess if he had the HA, Hx of trumps, and the CQ

Do I understand this correctly? The diamonds are

_____J852

KQx______10xx

_____A96

The only way you can avoid losing two diamonds is if they lead it?

You could attempt to hook them for KQTx(x) and still lose 2 tricks since you have to pull some trumps first in that case. That's what I'm gonna guess clayton did, and it's not that unreasonable since KQx is such a weird lead into a 1N opener.

No, the KQx is on my left. I had the 9 count with AT8xx of spades.

I played 3NT from the East side. Got a low club lead and the J held! Now led the K of hearts off dummy, which held. Duck a spade into South and made 3NT for an ave-
