In general does 2S by GIB show a second place to play? I think this was a discussion of a recent bridge world panel and there was a strong suggestion that 2S in a place like this should show spades and a minor.

What would a GIB do in my seat a) over 2SX b) over 2S if there were no x?

Balancing bids when passed in 2nd seat are definitely crazy. I'd recommend noone make such a bid- foolish partners have done that and got opponent up to a making game bid.

GIB makes that balancing 2 bid on 4 spades often enough that the description should be 4+S, not 5+S.

What's up with the description of the double: 10+HCP and 10- total points?
