Played this hand today on BBO. What would you bid as North after a 3 preempt by West? After 2 I probably would have bid 3 myself but was unsure what to do here. Do you double and risk your p bidding 5 when 4 or even 3NT might be your best spot, or do you just bid a game?

More generally, what does an overcall of 4 say about my hand? How limited am I and when should my partner be looking to bid on?

I really hate double here with a diamond void, so given the choices you had available, I would probably bid 4 as well.

Some people play "non-leaping Michaels" here, i.e. over 3M, 4m shows that minor and the other major. Playing this convention you would have had an easy 4 bid on this hand.

Anyway, the 4 overcall is very wide-ranging, partner should have a pretty good hand to make a move. I think with the South hand here it's close but I definitely understand pass, KT doesn't really look good at all.

Incidentally after the first 7 tricks I would have expected +480. ;)
