One of my partners was in good shape for qualifying for Day 3 until they had a crappy final set, so I was checking the recaps constantly.

I kept seeing your name near the top and I thought, hmm I think he's going to win this.

Congratulations on winning the top pairs event on our calendar! Also on getting your GLM - I had no idea you were that close.

It is obv a participation award and I know that but it's still something I wanted a lot. It is a cool thing to tell non bridge players since they know grand master in chess, and when you spend your entire life from age 10 on playing a game it's still nice to get a participation award to recognize that.

Becoming a Grand Life Master is far from a participation award.

And btw please start talking to me about this "entire life" business a few years from now. I started playing bridge at age 16 which is FORTY YEARS AGO! Entire life - geez!

Congrats on two major achievements.

Congratulations on a great win, and keeping it rolling.

I second the notion that this is far from a participation award - the NABC requirement alone would make it more than that. It's a very impressive achievement, especially now, when the influx of foreign players has made it that much harder to win a national event.

Grand LM is not a participation award. Not even close.

Platinum LM (which ironically tends to denote a lack of platinum points) is seen by some as negative.

Haughty out of stater asks Mainer if he's lived in Maine all his life, he responds: "so far".

I think I've got you both beat by winning my first masterpoints when I was nine, though I haven't been playing quite as long as Art.

Congrats to you, Justin.

the 10K part of GrandLM is "attendance points", but is still a pretty serious achievement. The Grand part of GrandLM is - not.

And getting it in arguably the toughest pairs event in North America - possibly even the world - is even more of a big thing.

I am impressed, but I am not surprised. May this be [edit: third!] of many!

That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

Hamman reckons that of the 156 boards he and Lall played in the Platinum Pairs, system was irrelevant on nearly all of them.

Does anyone know what system Lall and Hamman used? I was rooting for a forcing club system.
