Here's a misunderstanding I had with my partner recently:

(1NT)-P-(2D)-P
(2H)-X-(P)-2NT?

What is 2NT here?

The auction continues (P)-3C-(P)-3D

If 2NT above is scrambling, what is 3D now?

We play 2NT here as Scrambling , suggesting doubler should choose between Clubs and Diamonds.
In that context , converting 3 to 3 does not make sense, so if we didnt discuss this sequence I would assume pd meant 2NT as Lebensohl (or Good/Bad) and wants to show a weak hand with .

So, I have 0544 and bid for the minors to find a great fit. I want to go to the third level without even knowning about an 8 card fit. (We will have fun, but maybe not more)
In the meanwhile the opps with half of the deck and 9+ spades stay silent?

Possible, but I doubt it.

Without any agreement, I would vote for lebensohl and think that it is much more likely to compete with a two suiter and that it would be better to distigush between a weak and a strong two suiter then to show exactly a 0544 hand. (Or do you think partner risked this with 1543?).
Kind Regards

Roland

I would use scrambling in a balancing auction, but here we could easily have a game. So I think 2NT should be Lebensohl and I would definitely know that for certain after 3. If it's a UI case then I would not bid or consider bidding over 3 on any hand consistent with my previous pass then double.

I usually play against weak NT though and that makes the case for Lebensohl stronger.
