After North bids 3♦, South must find a bid. The explanations of his choices of 4♦ and 5♦ seem inconsistent.

(1) Neither 4♦ nor 5♦ specifically shows more than two-card support?
(2) 2NT shows 18-22 total points (stated as 18-19 HCP and 22- total points). Why do both 4♦ and 5♦ show fully 22 total points?
(3) The explanation of 5♦ includes both "3- 8421 HCP in S" and "Stop in S". The "Stop in S" part comes from the 2NT bid. Why/how does it get watered down?

PS: It would be nice if I could get these two hands to display side-by-side.

I agree that that is not a good part of the system. If you jump to 2NT so you have 18-19 HCP balanced, you shouldn't possibly be able to have 22 total points. You shouldn't need 22 to go up to 4 diamonds anyway, IMO. If your partner has 6 or more diamonds, it probably figures you only need 2 in order to bid diamonds, and being able to show more wouldn't really be all that important, so that's probably why it wasn't included. No good idea about number 3, unless they're some cuebid you can make to show essentially the same thing except with more 8421 pts in spades.
