Was happy to hear the x by east as I was still debating passing 2 out of fear the 1 suit was . However when it came back to me at 4 I realized my hand was a monster opposite anything partner had and bid the lowest suit knowing he would correct if needed.

I guess I should ask a question, if east does pass 2, what would you do?

Well bid.

You sound like you didn't have to make a choice because of the double. Everybody I know plays that the pass of this double suggests playing in clubs, I wonder how you play it. What would your partner do if opener had passed the double?

If RHO had passed then you could be very sure that partner had hearts. It's almost impossible for partner not to have hearts and RHO not to have 4+ hearts. Given that partner didn't open the bidding, he probably doesn't have a very strong heart suit, so I would pass out 2C.

By the way, I suspect that partner had 4 hearts and 6 diamonds because of his initial pass. If his diamonds were good enough to bid now (vulnerable with a passed hand partner) then they were good enough to bid earlier, but a 4-card heart suit is a good reason to pass in first seat.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I think one of us misunderstood the auction. Overcaller had to bid 5 because advancer bid 4 p/correct.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I believe han meant that my partner is very likely to be 6-4 in diamonds hearts because he didn't open 2(and of course he is spot on). I don't think he was questioning the auction at the 4/5 level.

I really should start taking some reading lessons. Anyway, interesting thread.
