Don't complain - seems a sane place to land, unlike some of GIB's contract choices... then again 3NT looks on. Perhaps North only found his CA on the 3rd round? :)

In other words, I can't justify the pass over 2H at all, even looking for GIB-esque reasoning.

The book bid is 3. But in some of its simulations (3 out of my 11 runs), it passes because it doesn't think the auction will end -- it expects you to balance and it will get to the same 3 contract. In these simulation runs, it dealt you mostly 4=2=2=5, 3=2=2=6, and 3=1=2=6 hands; you'll bid 2 with the first, 3 with the others.

Its prediction was right, wasn't it?

If a human bid like that, we'd call it masterminding. I guess I just don't understand why GIB doesn't make "the book bid" when one exists.
