thanxs hrothgar,

big dealer by stavern looks very promising
in fact the LIN files it generartes look identical to BBO
i'm having some problem sorting it out in my mind tho
(a windows version is even more confusing)

BBO via their bridge movie will generate hands
and they can tediously be printed out 1 @ a time
for hand records (using the options to reset calours helps save ink)
however i see no way of printing out a summary handout

Open bridge movie from BridgeVu software. From the Vugraph page (and before you open any of the individual hands), press the print icon (down on the icon bar at the bottom of the window next to the RED HELP button). It will ask you if you want to export to a file... Click yes (if you click no, it will print all hands)... You can then open the saved file.. it wlll be in a file called MATCH.TXT and it will be in the bridgebaseonline directory.. and example output follows (except it lines up perfectly on the normal print out, the web here messes it up a little bit. All the hands in the movie are added to the file... and IT IS IMPORTANT you don't look at any of the hands first.. if you do, close the file and reopen.

I looked into that some time ago. It looks like the best there is, but I could not get it installed under Windows XP. It was about a year ago and I have not tried since, so I cannot remember the precise problems. Also I am no puter expert. If there isn't a SETUP.EXE or INSTALL.EXE program that does it all for you, I have to forget it.

:) Thanxs hrothgar, 1eyedjack, and inquiry,

I now have an added perk to belonging to BBO
I am able to generate (randomly) 36 hand records
for specialized games at our club
it should be an easy task to reduce the hand records
which are in a txt file via a word processor
down to a 1 page handout

My pea brain is not able to understand how the BBO interface can be used as a Hand generator. Can someone explain in a little more detail.

I know how to print hands that we have played, but how do we get hands that has not be played but generated by BBO?

Any help on how to use the Hans van Staveren DEALER to a person with no knowledge on DOS programming will be higly appreciated. Is there a Step by Step Guide anywhere?

well ... what i'm doing is:
in BBO
click on BRIDGE MOVIE
click on NEW
complete box (give names, 1-36, random)
save file

then I followed inquiry's guide
to get a text file of the hand set (match.txt)
open up the text file
i use word perfect
edit it to the form you like

If you aren't comfortable with scripting, then Dealer probably isn't a very good choice for you. The real glory of Dealer lies in the scripting capabilities. As far as I know, there isn't any kind of GUI.

I previously used Dealer, but switched to Deal

http://thomaso.best....et/bridge/deal/

It is also scripting based and has GIB integration. in my opinion it is better than Dealer because you can reuse code by making procedures and including e.g. making a library for overcall by the opposition
