Suppose that you are in a spade contract, trumps having been pulled with one trump remaining in Dummy. Suppose also that control and transportation are not a problem. Suppose, further, that in diamonds no one can have a stiff or void.
With A-10 in Dummy, you have in hand either:
Q-J-x-x-x or
Q-J-9-x-x
What is the significance of the 9?
I have a reason. I just thought this might be a fun bridge problem. Curious to see if anyone spots what I think significant here.

"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

The significance is that I can lead the Q from the QJ9xx suit even when I need 4 diamond tricks, trying to make lefty guess whether I'm trying a Chinese finesse, whereas (all things being equal), I cannot try that with the other suit combination unless I can afford to ruff a diamond with dummy's last trump to set up the suit if they are 4-2.

Here's what I was thinking:
