IMPS, east will bid 2 given the opportunity. Can you stay out of game? If not .. what's your auction to get to 4H? (the only game with a chance)

*******

Bonus question .. can North get away with a creative negative double? How do you take this auction?

1H (1S) X (2S)
4C P 4D?

does 4D show this hand .. or is it some sort of slam try?
If no one comes from the future to stop you from doing it then how bad a decision could it really be?

If north doubled then why would south bid 4C? 1534 is about the easiest X of 2S ever.

I was going to suggest 1H (1s) x (2s) 3c p 3d, playing good/bad so that 3c shows better than a minimum opener from south. Having opener reopen with a double as justin suggests works fine too.

"Get away with" a "creative" negative double? It was the textbook way to show a long suit too weak to bid naturally at the 2-level immediately, at least if you learned negative doubles in the pre-Internet age... if that's what south understands 3D to show, he should have no trouble avoiding 3NT or 5D.
