Hi, a few questions about this hand please, playing SAYC

1/. I opened 1 club, IF my pard had bid 1nt what should I bid next?

2/. if I bid a major does it show a reverse 100%

my pard ACtually bid 1 spade

what are your opinions on the following bid?

1a/. should I bid 3 spades not 2 spades in response to pards 1 spade bid

2a/. should I bid 4 diamond splinter not 2 spades in response to pards 1 spade bid

3a/. should I bid 4 spades not 2 spades in response to pards 1 spade bid

3/. should I do something else?

thanks

If your partner responds 1NT what should you do? Well, you should not bid 2H or 2S, those show a much better hand than you actually hold. The question is should you pass, rebid some number of clubs, or raise notrump. It this was matchpoints, you would have a tough decision, especially if you play inverted minors. Partner could have 5 or even six card club support. But at imps, you have no problem. I think pass is in order.

Next should you bid 2 over 1? No this is an huge underbid. Goren counts what, five points for a void with support? You have 13 hcp + 5 for void is 18 pts old fashion goren count. This is too much for a simple 2 rebid.

The next question(s) you ask is should you bid 3S, 4D (splinter) or 4S. The answer is buried in the conditions of contest. You have this as an imps contest with you vulnerable. Odds are you will ahve some play for game unless partner's points are all in diamonds (something like xxxx xxx AKx xxx). And since you need to stretch to bid game vul at timps, as stated I would bid 4 splinter. The problem with this bid, is partner might play me for an ACE more. But the quailty of my club and heart holding makes anything less than game forciing rebid too wimpy.

At matchpoints and imps non-vul, I think 3S rebid is probably enough.

I too go for the 4d splinter, vul at IMPs. You have to get to game, and if partner has some values in hearts/clubs then slam could be on.
After a 1NT response, vul at IMPs, I would probably just bid 2c as this should be an easy make. If opps get competitive we may be able to x them.

if the bidding goes 1c : 1nt, i pass... and 1c : 1nt : 2h(s) is absolutely a reverse... after partner bids spades, i count my hand as 13 hcp, 1 length point, and 5 shortness points for a total of 19... it's hard to imagine partner holding a hand where 4s doesn't make, so i'd bid that

btw, if partner is making a game try with his 3s bid, i'd suggest 3h instead (unless he judges that he only needs to know about your trumps)... there are a lot of good game try conventions to choose from... i like kokish, but others have their favorites

1. A bid of 1NT over 1C surely has at least three clubs, so I'd bid 2C. Not going to leave it in 1NT and watch opps cash their 5-6 diamond tricks.

2. A reverse 1C-1NT-2H/S would require about an ace more than what you have.

3. A mere 2S is an underbid, so a jump into 3S should be ok. I wouldn't bid 4S or 4D because of the following. While 4S might make opposite a min 1S response, pard might get over-excited, in which case your lack of controls might leave a 5-level contract in jeapordy.

Pass 1NT, bid 3S over 1S. With a familiar partner I bid 4D, but with an unfamiliar partner I don't think this is strong enough.

Rebid 2 over 1NT, you are suurre to have fiit.
Biddng a major over 1NT is a reverse really, there is no point in biddiing a suit with has no fit for sure if you aren´t looking for game.

2 is a small underbid, 4 & 4 look like an overbid to me, I would try 3 with my partners wich is mini-splinter, but 3 if I was playing online probably.
