what controls Gibs defense auction?

was looking at this result from robo tournament matchpoints
singleton 7♠ was in dummy on opening lead

lead 3 spades


on this one GIB plays AKJ♠ at tricks 1.2.3

My guess: the 2NT overcall suggests that south has 3 or 4 spades. It's playing for Q85, hoping that partner can get in and lead spades again. On the second auction, South might have just Q2, as it was end-played into bidding NT.
