On the GIB convention card, standard count is marked. However, I have noticed on several occasions that at trick one in an obvious count situation, GIB plays low from a doubleton. Is it confused between count & attitude?

I mostly notice it giving standard count signals. The thing is that GIB doesn't know which are "obvious count situations", and sometimes it plays randomly.

Yes this is a mystery to me too?
Even more perplexing is how often it leads from 3 against NT, when longest and strongest would work out more often.

Best I can tell, GIB always plays low from a small doubleton. He also consistently leads low from xxx against NT.

So when defending agaist GIB do you ever find yourself doing this also?

I don't generally modify my carding for the benefit of my opponents... but, no, when defending with GIB I play according to what the convention card says, not according to my observations of his doing otherwise.

When playing with or against GIB I pretty much ignore carding altogether.

I think it's incredibly afraid to lead away from honors, especially AQxxx.
