The new internet version of BBO seems to be useless for joining team
matches. There is no possibility to call lobby for participants,
there is never any matches listed on the upcoming matches page, it
is not possible to join a running match as sub. I bet that almost
all team matches still are being organized in the good old
  downloadable version. :)

Hi Kristen,

welcome to the forums! I guess you are right, all the totally random team matches are still organised via the old client. Personally, I've never understood their appeal and can organise perfectly good non-random team matches with the new version.

Michael (not a BBO employee)

perhaps 1 reason for using the 'old version' is that I dont either need or have a desire to upload the 'New Version'

You don't have to download the new version, it just runs in the web browser.

The ways in which it was "broke" are not necessarily visible to users. From what I understand, here are some of the problems with the old version:

The protocol it used put too much load on BBO's servers, so it was hard for them to handle as many users as they wanted to.

The design of the program made it hard to add new features, like Bridge Bingo.
