What is a true “bug”? Is this considered a true “bug”… or some random-like occurrence? #5331 Robot Duplicate 08_14_11, Hand #2… for GIB’s 2nd bid of 2♠ the mouse over bid description reads: “5+ S; 6-10 total points”

generally a bug is something that isnt correct in the programming or something that can be corrected.
most programs are deciscion trees triggered by yes or no desicions leading to another fork in the road
with another set of yes or no followed by the same.

even real life bridge players have to deviate from standards at times, so in the long run we are trying
to maximize or deciscions

just copy and past the actual http link and paste it here will make it easier for people to follow your question

GIB knows you have 3 card support so he bids 2 not a bug as far as I can tell unless you are referring to the fact he has 12 hcp
but i dont know what GIB uses to evaluate points, hcp only or one of those other evaluation systems, at imps I would just bid 4
or cue or someting else with its hands that shows max hand but who knows only GIB and Bbradley seem to know

It's a bug. Neither 2/3 would correspond to the North hand.

North has 12HCP/13TP which seems good enough for 4 requirements.

It will be investigated what stops that.

It seems pretty clear that OP is referring to the fact that North is too strong for the 2 bid.

Is this explanation too complicated, pp? It's available through obvious links from both the forums and the main BBO site.

HCP vs Total Points

Gib uses both old fashioned HCP (A=4,K=3,Q=2,J=1)) and “Total points” (HCP+3 for void, 2 for singleton, 1 for doubleton). It sometimes uses “8421” points when cuebidding (A=8,K=4,Q=2,J=1). It will usually force to game if it thinks it has 25 Total Points between the two hands.
The description given for 2 very clearly refers to a specific range for total points.

Bb is it too complicated fot you to understand that some of us prefer to play real brodge where we dont have to click on every bid to find out what it means!
Give me a break you stick up for these things like your married to them. Gib is far from perfect and so are most players. I should not have to bring up a web page to find out what gibs bids mean or should we have to read a forum to figure it out. We are either trying to build a better mouse trap or break it.

You shouldn't have to call up that page to understand what HCP or total points are; those descriptions should be clear to everyone. I'm also not suggesting that you call up that page mid-hand, just that you should read it once before playing with GIB, just as you would look at the convention card or have a brief discussion with any human partner before playing. And it should be pretty clear from my postings that I don't perpetually defend GIB; the first thing I said in this thread is that Andy correctly identified a bug. But comments like:

GIB is the only one to know for sure that his 2 call was not natural...

indicate that you're just venting and whining.

If you want to play real bridge, don't play with a GIB which is more an exercise in managing the GIB than playing bridge.
