So, does GIB use the same criteria for opening in all four seats? (Human South passing is not the subject here in the GIB forum.)

Why not open first hand?
Nice hand, offensive values

Yes, 7 of the 10 human Souths who played this hand (including me) opened, and I expect that an even higher percentage of Forum members would do so; if we were attributing blame it would be shared in some way by both partners for failing to open. However, this thread is in the GIB forum, where we discuss/report GIB's oddities, so I was hoping to focus on why North didn't open.

My problem would be the 3rd hand

1S nice S suite adequate values, but o will probably have majority of points and come to a good score
2S okay I miss the 6th s card, but let o strugle and -100 may be a good result in pairs and I doubt they have the balls to play 2S X

pass? no thanks

I would open the North hand with the obvious bid of 1.

I see no danger in this, it's a full value call, but I would not accept an invite opposite a limit raise.

To answer the question, yes, GiB uses the same criteria for third seat as in 1st/2nd. I think it does use pearson points for 4th, but not sure.

GIB have different criteria about opening in different seats, and that involves hcp+tp.

At the moment GIBs are not using Drury to check how did their partner opened, which might be required if the opening could be say more freely in 3rd position.

Hmmm... Does anyone actually know what criteria GIB uses to determine whether to open?

No, GIB certainly does not use Pearson Points. This has been documented in several threads.
